Concept 2 to present

Concept 2 Is a sturdy looking bike made with a cheap tubular structure underneath, with a over moulded layer made from a plastic that is 50% wood pulp (Kareline, see esquisse 3) This over moulded layer creates a unique design and allows many design opportunities. This over moulded layer can be removed for maintenance, giving the bike an extra level of protection from vandals.

To obtain a bike you swipe your membership card follow the prompts on the screen, and also obtain a hygienic helmet insert. the bike is unlocked and the basket lid is unlocked, revealing the helmet. The idea with this is to encourage use of the helmet, if the user wants to use the basket they need to remove the helmet.

The bike itself is stored by rolling the bike into guides on the ground which hold the bike upright, the locking mechanism comes in like a clam closing to join through the hole in the frame, the basket lid also locks. Using RFID technology the helmets presence is recognised

Concept 1 is a simple cheap framed bike with fairly flat panels added to the side for style and advertising. The idea is that the bike is easy to maintain and overall very cheap, advertising could be added to make the bikes 'free'

The dock stores the helmets and hygeinic helmet inserts. You swipe your membership card and select a bike, a helmet is dispnsed to you and you walk to the bike with the corresponding number to your helmet. You place the helmet in the basket and utilizing RFID technology the bike will then regognize the helmet and unlock itself
